Our Dear Boy

Our dearest kitty boy, Bastet, left us today around noon. He's been sick for quite some time, dealing with kidney stuff for the past year or so. His last few days were peaceful and quiet, even celebrating his 19th birthday just yesterday.

He's been with Chris since 1990, his constant companion, drinking buddy and all around best friend. You couldn't ask for a better cat. He was the greatest! So wise, and loving, and protective even.

We are truly sad, and yet at peace as we know he had a long and wonderful life, and is now dancing around with the likes of Trixie! What could be better?

Here are some photos of him throughout his life, with the last few shot just a day or so ago.

OH MY GAWD!!!!

Made it!! SO, you can't vid your self as you are hauling your body hand over hand up a vertical rock face at 8400 feet after an 8 hour up-a-rocky-mountian hike, pausing the rock face only to let people pass on their way down, or just pausing so you can make sure your biceps and lungs have not burst out of your body....what I mean is, you don't get to see that climing part.

You'll just have to take our word for it, it is really really really hard. In fact, I got ill about 100 ft from the top (it is a 400 ft face) and thought I'd have to turn around. It was a combination of the huge effort it took for my arms and upper body to pull me up, because on the slick smooth surface there are no footholds, and that I had to work in short bursts of high energy from pole to pole, becuase the only "resting" places were the poles. (one of which popped out on the way down!) Did I mention I was REALLY SCARED?!

Ah!

Of, course you do have to go down, see how it drops to vertical just beyond

the climber in the pink!?? Going down was actually easy, not that

you weren't still hanging on FOR YOUR LIFE. But it was easier!

This is the base of Sub Half Dome, where the climbing is all rock

Sub Half Dome is part "stairs" and part sheer rock face

Never Fear, Moutain Man is here!

And we still have 8+ hours to hike back down!

And then the next day...we took it easy!

Ok Ok, I know....we have to post our Yosemite adventure, but soooo many other things are happening....like.....

OUR NEW BUNNY BOY!!

And, well, yes, he won't exactly look like the photo that I sent out ...because...well, when the wonderful rescuer Alex showed up today I looked in the carrier and I said... "Um. That's not Warren...." And she said " Yes it is."

A quick look at the website confirmed that he in fact was not Warren, but has been called Warren, so technically is Warren, despite that fact that he really isn't quite THE Warren. BUT...it hardly mattered, because look at this lovely guy!!!! He was clearly fated to be ours!

Gemma likes him too, of course.

He met Emily and REALLY likes her, to the humping point. SO we will let his

hormones wash away a bit more before too much close contact happens..!

A tribute to our Dear Alice

We lost our Alice. She was too ill and we had to help her go. So sad. She was stunning with her lovely huge body, her black and white feathers and her amazing outgoing personality. She was the queen and in charge of our flock. The day after she passed, there were no eggs laid and the girls do lay eggs every day. I found that very significant.

My first summer session students found out I was "retiring" from speech and tonight at our last class, they presented me with THESE!! How amazing it that?

GCC students have always been receptive and appreciative, even in just a five week summer session, they join together and enhance each others learning experiences and have made my job truly rewarding. I am grateful to have had the experience.

Jessie CRASHES THROUGH WINDOW!

Yep, some one decided to celebrate the 4th of July a few days early and must have set off something pretty radically large. We came home around 10:30 one night last week and Jessie was gone. She jumped through glass, wood and screen. No one else was missing, thank goodness!

She jumped through the top part of a side window and probably landed in the neighbor's yard.

She was missing until 3am. You can imagine how distressing it was! We drove around with Doodle in the car, we called her name, whistled, yelled, prayed and all we saw were coyotes. Many many coyotes.

Just before 3am Chris and I thought we'd at least pretend to go to bed, one of us in front of the house and one in back. I started to create fliers to post and Chris went to the front door to look out one more time, and she was walking up the front steps. I just heard him say "Get in here girl" and I didn't know if he was wishing out loud or really talking to her. Then I saw her beautiful white face come in the door. He fell to his knees crying and hugging her. It was a very tearful joyful moment. She had a gash on her nose and two ripped pads.

This is what she does when you take her photo, bark and avoid you at all costs!

She was so retramatized that we had to drug her for the 4th and even under the influence she was still shaky and wouldn't even go pee. I've had to take her to school all week, couldn't leave her alone during firecracker season and the window dude couldn't come by till Saturday. Luckily my students love her. But it is very hard to focus with a white fango in your classroom, especially with the new "no dogs" rule on campus....eek!

Jessie is without a doubt the luckiest most blessed doggie, she survives on the street, gets rescued by a shelter, gets rescued from the shelter by New Leash on Life and has her puppies all get homes (!) Then survives opening a window and running up to Lisa and Richard's, survies a PIT BULL attack (the pit was clamped on to her neck) and now survives a crash through a window and coyote laden streets. She is VERY happy to be home, she never wants to go, she's really a home body, but the noises just trigger her fear response and she can't stop herself.

I met Orville when I was in first or second grade. We had two boy kittens

Bastet 18 years old Bastet enjoys Beer, Chips, and the occasional cracker or piece of toast. He is especially adept at meowing loudly in the wee hours of the morning with incredible aim and precision as he positions himself at the entrance of your ear canal. This insures your hearing him, although his volume is such that you'd hear him were you there with him or were you in the front yard cranking up the lawn mower. He also enjoys padding around on the wooden floors with all his claws extended. His favorite hobbies to date are warm laundry snuggling, seen above and heat pad surfing.

Billie 15 Years old

Billie is an avid fetcher, hisser, tongue-sticker-outer, extended growler, yoga master and sock drawer snuggler. She enjoys calling people into the bedroom to play with her, which you must do regardless of what you were doing, or she will not stop calling you. Her favorite hobbies are interactive petting, she doesn't believe in staying still to be pet. Billie also enjoys smacking other animals on the head, which she does with admirable speed and stunning auditory effect.
